Better Together! March for Europe Berlin – 16 February 2017

Networking meeting: March for Europe Berlin

If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll definitely have noticed that we’re not the only ones planning a pro-European demo on 25 March 2017. Representatives from many other pro-European groups already dropped by our most recent planning meeting, and we’re looking forward to working closely with them to stage a combined pro-European demo on 25 March.

As lovebirds celebrated Valentine’s Day, we pro-Europeans from a wide variety of organisations came together to discuss exactly where to go from here. The following points were on the agenda: 1. the structure of the demo itself; 2. communication; 3. content/slogans; 4. division of tasks.

Despite our diverse backgrounds and points of view, we were able to agree on the most important points: the demo will begin at 12pm on 25 March 2017 at Bebelplatz, Berlin. From there, we’ll march down Unter den Linden to Pariser Platz by the Brandenburg Gate. At 13pm, we want to symbolically tear down a wall constructed at Pariser Platz. Parallel demos will take place – mostly at the same time – in Rome, Dusseldorf, Aalborg, Edinburgh, London, and hopefully Madrid, Brussels, Warsaw, and Sofia.

We also discussed the merits of a shared Facebook presence. As an alliance of pro-Europeans, we want to cooperate with and support each other.

What’s more, we settled on two dates to make the wall blocks and placards for the demo: 28 February 2017 and 14 March 2017, both at 6pm at Sophienstraße 28/29. Feel free to come along – the more the merrier!

At the end of our meeting, everyone was full of enthusiasm, motivated by our shared belief in the importance of pooling our strengths and resources in order to speak up for Europe with one, united voice. The meeting was the perfect first step along this journey!
